Charles Weindorf is a retired IT Director and Chief Engineer with nearly 40 years of experience in software engineering. At Erie Insurance, he served in every possible technical and supervisory role, where he developed his written communication to encourage software engineers to understand their responsibilities, see their value, adopt change, and focus on future direction. With stories and humor, he influenced the next generation of software engineers to excel in their craft.
Charles started his professional software development career at age seventeen, converting programs to work on the rare 1970s personal computers. Because universities of the day did not teach the latest technology, Charles landed a full-time software engineering role at
19 to deliver solutions in emerging technologies. In his nearly 40 years with Erie Insurance, Charles saw the software engineering team grow from a dozen to more than 300. Starting as an eager programmer trainee to becoming an eager chief engineer, he learned many lessons the hard way. His current role is sharing experience, fostering good decisions, and leading by encouraging others to excel.
Charles attempts to learn a new skill or hobby each year — including creating a board game from one of his fiction works, leading a new spiritual retreat, leaning to fly in a simulator, and managing a political campaign.
